Over the last four years of mindlessly trawling through Instagram, Facebook and Twitter feeds, I have seen the internet blow up over three things:
The first one was One Direction.
The second was Trump.
Now the third…. BTS.
BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, are a seven-member South Korean boy band formed by Big Hit Entertainment. Known for their large social media presence, BTS were listed by Forbes as the most retweeted artist on Twitter in March 2016.
Now the crazy part… One of the band members (see pic) is rumoured to have actually escaped from… wait for it… NORTH KOREA?!? I’m almost lost for words. Images of their practise sessions boggle my mind. What would happen? Does one take control of all of the song writing and instruments and the rest are made to follow in matching uniforms pledging allegiance to the band? Is there a list of 25 pre-approved haircuts within the band that they can choose from with their own ‘free will’?
In North Korea it is a fact that you can receive the death penalty for watching a South Korean movie… Can you imagine the internal conflict that lies within the band on a day-to-day basis?
“Okay ‘V’ (actual name of one of the members of BTS), noise cancelling headphones on, you’re not allowed to actually hear any of your music, it is for your own safety”.
One thing is for sure, if Kim Jong-un ever decided to claim the band member back as his own, their social media following of over 12 MILLION would make one hell of an army to try and stop him.
